Program Description
Keeping up to date on the annual ICD-10-CM coding changes is imperative for all HIM coding professionals and CDI professionals as well. The Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting are foundational to coding and CDI. Learning about the annual coding revisions is pivotal and essential from a compliance and reimbursement perspective. For FY2021 there are 490 new codes, 47 revised codes and 58 codes deemed invalid effective October 1, 2021.

This eLearning Program series has been approved for continuing education units (CEUs) for use in fulfilling the continuation education requirements of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS) for CDI-related events; no more than ten units from any single event. CEUs are based on contact hours. 30 minutes of attendance at an educational program equals .5 CEU. Deanna Klure has over 22 years of combined experience in inpatient and outpatient coding, auditing and coding compliance. In addition to her role with Kaiser Permanente, Deanna is also a coding instructor at the Loma Linda University, School of Allied health. Deanna has dedicated her career to mentoring coding professionals in accurately applying ICD-10, ICD-9 and CPT codes. As the Co-chair of the CHIA Coding Data Quality Committee, she enjoys working with others and building compliant coding programs.
Nancy Andersen, MS, RHIA, CCS
Director, Revenue Management Compliance Coding and HIM Oversight; Kaiser Permanente Hospitals and Health Plan
Nancy Andersen is the director of Revenue Management Compliance Coding and HIM Oversight in Kaiser Permanente’s National Compliance, Ethics & Integrity Office (NCO). Since joining NCO in 2012, Nancy has served as a senior manager for the NCO Revenue Management Compliance Health Plan Oversight team and senior manager for the Care Delivery team. In these roles, Nancy was responsible for program-wide coding and HIM compliance. Nancy actively serves as a volunteer leader, including as the current CHIA Past President, and has served previously on the CHIA Board of Directors and numerous CHIA committees.

Program Description
October 1, 2020 brings with it changes to the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) impacting acute healthcare organizations. Among the changes is a new MS-DRG code for Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-Cell Therapies, several new MS-DRGs, additional information on issues such as building on price transparency by publishing hospital rates by MS-DRGs, inpatient quality reporting program and more.
Significant changes are coming, and this means changes to our MS- DRGs and the reimbursement to our organizations. What is new and changing for FY2021 IPPS?
