HIM Professionals…..Looking for a great way to earn CEUs? Did you know that by making a presentation at a CHIA seminar or the CHIA Convention & Exhibit you can earn several CEUs? Well, you can! For every 15 minutes of presentation, you earn one CEU. If you participate in an hour-long panel discussion you can also earn one CEU. Below is the 2009 ‘Call for Speaker Proposals’. Yes, it does seem early and too far in advance, but the 2009 Convention Committee will be meeting soon and they will be planning next year’s program. Please consider sharing your experiences with our members (and earn some CEUs at the same time).
Planning ahead - 2009 CHIA State Convention & Exhibit
If you are looking for a great way to share what you've learned, give back to the profession, add something to your resume or just earn CEUs - how about making a presentation at the CHIA State Convention & Exhibit. The California Health Information Association (CHIA) is now accepting applications for program speakers for our 2009 State Convention & Exhibit educational program. The annual CHIA State Convention & Exhibit will be held Sunday, June 14, 2009 through Wednesday June 17, 2009 at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort and Spa in Indian Wells, California.
Topics should focus on issues of interest to health inforamtion management professionals, health information policymakers, and health information technology professionals. The program will include multiple general sessions as well as a variety of educational learning paths and tutorials. For every 15 minutes of presentation you earn one CEU, and if you participate in an hour longpanel discussion you can also earn one CEU. Please consider sharing your experiences with our members (and earn some CeUS at the same time).
Speaker applications are due by September 18, 2008. So soon? Yes! Our Convention Committee starts meeting in August to create the best educational programs on the market for HIM professionals.
All proposals submitted are reviewed and selected by the CHIA 2009 Convention Committee. Program topics should be timely, relevant, and innovative. We are looking for speakers The speakers selected will be experienced and qualified to present their topics. Program topics should be timely, innovative, and of relevance and use to the audience. We are looking for presenters who will provide the audience with greater understanding of current issues, new systems and applications, with program content that offers practical approaches and solutions, while stimulating new ideas.

Potential speakers for GENERAL SESSIONS, EDUCATIONAL LEARNING PATHS AND TUTORIALS SUBMIT A COMPLETED SPEAKER APPLICATION AND PRESENTATION OUTLINE TO THE CHIA Executive Director, LaVonne LaMoureaux, RHIA, CAE, LaVonne@CaliforniaHIA.org. You may submit more than one outline for consideration. Additional information required includes the main learning objectives of the presentation, title and brief outline of presentation; and your curriculum vitae or resume. Speaker handouts are required and speakers must submit a master of their handout materials to CHIA at least six weeks before the convention. Educational topics, for both general sessions and track sessions, are generally one hour in length (including questions and answers). Tutorials will be three to six hours in length. Panel presentations are also permitted.
