Medical Record Confidentiality and the Release of Information seminar

Program Presentation

This seminar covers the Federal HIPAA and California laws that control confidentiality and the release of general and specialized patient health information. New Fedreral regulations are anticipated in February and will be included if released prior to the seminar. Discussion topics will include the various types of requests, including subpoenas, which are received in a health information department and provides guidance on how to respond to each. Also included will be general information on the identity theft Red Flag Rules.

Speakers

Shirlie M. Marymee, RHIA, CHP

Ms. Marymee is the Health Information Directorr and Privacy Liaison for Mercy San Juan Medical Center, Carmichael, CA.  She has been a member of the adjunct faculty at Cosumnes River College and is a frequent speaker at medical/legal presentations.

Anita Buescher, RHIA, CHP

Ms. Buescher is the Corporate Privacy Officer for Sutter Health. She assists with development and impementation of their compliance program. Ms. Buescher is a contributing author of the CHIA “HIPAA privacy and Security Rules Guide and ONlined Education ROI modules.

Comprehensive handouts will be provided. CHIA publications Confidentiality and Security: Protecting and Releasing Health Information in California and A HIPAA Compendium: Patient Privacy in California will be available for purchase.

Payment Policy

Full payment is required with your completed registration form. A copy of an approved check request is acceptable to submit with the registration form.

Cancellation and Substitutions

Cancellations received up to five working days before the seminar are refundable, minus a $30 registration service charge. Cancellations received within five working days of seminar may request to have a portion of the paid registration fee applied toward a future CHIA seminar (must be used in 12 months). This request must be made in writing and the registration service charge will still apply. If you don’t cancel and don’t attend, you are responsible for full payment. Substitutions may be made; the appropriate member or nonmember fee will apply to the substitute. Please contact CHIA Executive Office to make any cancellations or substitutions.

Continuing Education Units

This program has been approved for five continuing education units for use in fulfilling the continuing education requirements of the AHIMA's Commission on Certification of Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM).
