Committees and Task Forces

CHIA has over one hundred dedicated volunteers participating on committees, task forces, and other volunteer groups. Whether you are interested in volunteering on one of these committees, on the CHIA Board of Directors, as a Delegate to AHIMA, or in another capacity, just let us know by visiting the Volunteer Opportunities page and completing the Volunteer Questionaire. CHIA’s Committees and Task Forces change from year to year, based on the needs of CHIA. Below are CHIA’s current committees.

Academics Committee

Candidates Committee
Committee promotes programs and nominations related to AHIMA elected positions, AHIMA Foundation Triumph Awards, AHIMA CSA Core Service Achievement Awards and CHIA Recognition Awards.		 Kamar Braish, RHIT
Coding and Data Quality Committee
Disseminates current coding and reimbursement information to CHIA membership and other health care practitioners and takes an active role in all matters related to classification, collection and use of heath care data.		 Monica Leisch, RHIA, CCS
Convention Committee
Plans the topics, speakers and events for the CHIA Convention & Exhibit. Members also assist on-site with convention activities.		 Tracey Freitas, RHIT
Editorial Advisory Board
Advisory and peer review body concerned with the content of the CHIA Journal. Reviews and approves articles for publishing in the CHIA Journal. Members assist in identifying topics and authors for journal articles and make other recommendations related to the CHIA Journal.		 Cynthia Doyon, RHIA
Emerging Issues Committee
Advise and provide CHIA with HIM expertise in the area of emerging issues for HIM including environmental scanning, reviewing, and vetting trends.		 Debi Primeau, MA, RHIA, FAHIMA
Legislation Committee
Reviews proposed legislation and regulations to ascertain the impact on the HIM profession and consumers and informs the CHIA membership of pertinent pending and passed legislation.		 Janet Chisholm, RHIA
Nominating Committee
Identifies qualified CHIA members to serve as CHIA Board of Director officers, AHIMA Delegates, and AHIMA Nominating Committee representatives.		 Henryetta Wynne, MA, RHIT
Privacy and Security Committee
Advises the CHIA Board and recommends resources for CHIA members on issues related to electronic heath records (EHRs), health information exchange (HIE) implementation and privacy & security of health information. Advances CHIA’s effective collaboration with external public and private organizations that have a mutual interest in these topics.		 Sharon Lewis, MBA, RHIA, CHPS, CPHQ
Professional Networking & Communications Committee
Focuses on HIM career information, professional networking, and use of social media within CHIA. May participate in health fairs, and encourages CLAs to participate in career fairs.		 Deborah Collier, RHIA
Publications Committee
Evaluates, recommends and coordinates the development of resources which includes the CHIA’s E-books. The Publications Committee is responsible for ensuring that existing educational resources are updated and current with health information management practice, laws, and regulations. Recommends other books and resources for the CHIA publication list.		 Rebecca Clark, RHIA
Seminars Committee
