Committees and Task Forces

CHIA has over one hundred dedicated volunteers participating on committees, task forces, and other volunteer groups. Whether you are interested in volunteering on one of these committees, on the CHIA Board of Directors, as a Delegate to AHIMA, or in another capacity, just let us know by visiting the Volunteer Opportunities page and completing the Volunteer Questionaire. CHIA’s Committees and Task Forces change from year to year, based on the needs of CHIA. Below are CHIA’s current committees.

Academics Committee
Members include one HIM educator from each HIA/HIT school and other non-educators. Establish communication between CHIA and existing and potential HIA/HIT programs in California.

Candidates Committee
Committee promotes programs and nominations related to AHIMA elected positions, AHIMA Foundation Triumph Awards, AHIMA CSA Core Service Achievement Awards and CHIA Recognition Awards.
Maria Caban Alizondo, MAOL, RHIT
Coding and Data Quality Committee
Disseminates current coding and reimbursement information to CHIA membership and other health care practitioners and takes an active role in all matters related to classification, collection and use of heath care data.
Nancy Andersen, MS, RHIA, CCS, CRCR and Diana McWaid MS, RHIA, CCS, CPC, CDIP
Continuum of Care Committee
Provides HIM resources (articles and educational programs) related to the post acute care settings.
Sharon Vandagriff, RHIA
Convention Committee
Plans the topics, speakers and events for the CHIA Convention & Exhibit. Members also assist on-site with convention activities.
Diane Premeau, MBA, MCIS, RHIA, CHP, CHC
Editorial Advisory Board for the CHIA Journal
Reviews/approves articles for publishing the CHIA Journal. Members assist in identifying topics and authors for journal articles and make other recommendations related to the CHIA Journal.
Dana Read, MJ, RHIA, CHC
Legislation/Privacy and Security Committee
Reviews proposed legislation and regulations to ascertain the impact on the HIM profession and consumers and makes recommendations on actions to the Board of Directors. CHIA attempts to appoint members who cover the array of health care areas - Acute Hospital, LTC, Mental Health, Ambulatory, Home Health, etc..

Nominating Committee
Works with CLAs and individual members to make nominations for CHIA Board of Director offices, AHIMA Delegates, and AHIMA Nominating Committee. Consists of one representative from each CLA and two CHIA Board-appointed members.
Gloryanne Bryant, RHIA, CCS, CDIP, CCDS
Seminars Committee
Plans the topics, speakers and locations for CHIA Seminars. Members may act as on-site coordinators and presiders at seminars.
Social Media
The CHIA Social Media Volunteer is responsible for coordination, communication and oversight of timely and pertinent information updates/announcements on CHIA designated social media sites.
Webinar Committee
Plans topics and speakers for CHIA’s webinar programs.
