Many volunteer opportunities are available within CHIA. The majority of committee appointments is made on an annual basis by the CHIA President-elect and most have one-year terms that begin July 1st and run through June 30th of the following year. These appointments are generally made in the Spring for the fiscal year that begins July 1st. If you are interested in volunteering for CHIA, send your name, area of expertise and interests to LaVonne LaMoureaux at LaVonne@CaliforniaHIA.org or fax it to (559) 251-5836. The CHIA Volunteer Questionnaire describes the various volunteer opportunities at the CHIA and CLA level. Special task forces are also appointed from time to time, as needed.
The California Health Information Association strives to reflect in its membership and leadership the diversity within the California, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, special needs, and other diverse populations. CHIA encourages the celebration and promotion of diversity through education, mentoring, recognition, leadership, and other programs. Volunteers are expected to disclose conflicts and dualities of interest.
Component Local Associations (CLA)
CLAs offer many volunteer opportunities at the local level. These opportunities include the full range of elected and appointed positions, such as president, directors, delegates, and committee and task force chairs and members. Most of the terms of office start July 1 through June 30. The list of CSA contacts is located within each CLA Web page on this Web site.
Elected Positions and Nomination forms
Each year the leaders of the CHIA Board of Directors are selected through a CHIA ballot. The CHIA Nominating Committee selects the slate of candidates for the election based on criteria for each of the positions. We encourage our members to seek one of the positions or to assist the Nominating Committee by identifying CHIA members who will provide strong leadership for CHIA.
We ask you to consider yourself and your colleagues who are fellow members and who have made leadership contributions at the AHIMA, CHIA or CLA level, or through their work with our committees, task forces and counsels, or who have contributed to other organizations with similar interests. Nominate those deserving individuals for service in one of the open positions by completing and sending in the CHIA Leadership Nomination Form. Nominations should be submitted by September 1st, annually.
